January 13, 2019 was such a special day for our family- Josie was baptized! Our pastor, Jamie, baptized her at our church, Redeemer Church. Tons of our family and friends came, and of course our church family was out in full force.
Josie was so excited and joyful the whole day, and wasn’t nervous at all.
I am normally the designated baptism photographer at our church, so my sweet friend Cayte took pictures for me so I could just be “mom” for the day. 🙂
One of the really special things our church does for baptisms is that we always have a person stand up and speak to the person that is being baptized. They normally read a verse and tell a little bit of their testimony. Jake did this for Josie, and he did such an awesome job. We decided that this was the passage we wanted to pick for her:
“And you were dead in the trespasses and sins in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience-among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind. BUT GOD, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ- by grace you have been saved- and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness towards us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not as a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.”
Ephesians 2:1-10 (emphasis mine)
Jake shared this passage, and told her that he wanted to remember those two words- BUT GOD as she started her walk with Christ. He shared with everybody some of her testimony- how she has always loved God, but just recently realized she just couldn’t live apart from him any longer.
And then Jamie baptized her.
And it was beautiful and joyful!
God is so good!!
