Another sickie
This morning Jack woke up with a fever and a croupe sounding cough. I was able to leave work a little early to take him to the doctor. I wanted to go ahead and take him, just in case he had gotten Josie’s ear infection. I got to thinking, and I believe this is Jack’s FIRST sick visit to the doctor his whole life! Such a difference from Josie’s first year-we practically LIVED in...
Somebody learned to clap!
Training day two
Ran 3 miles in 31.54 min, and then I did 2 minute long sprint intervals (sprint 1minute, then walk 1 minute, then sprint again). According to my schedule I was only supposed to run 30 minutes, but then I was so close to three miles it was too tempting to stop :).
Just some pictures….
Ear infection
So, I had to take Josie to the doctor today. She has her first ear infection since her tubes have been out :(. The good(ish) news is we caught it early, though. Bleh. Poor girl. She will miss preschool for the first time tomorrow-she is being a great sport about it, though. Luckily, she doesn’t really seem like she feels bad at all-her ears were just hurting. Now that we have an antibiotic,...
3 years, 7 months
Josie,
You are MORE than three and half years old! Sometimes I absolutely cannot believe how big you are getting…..I know I say that all the time, but I really can’t believe it! You are such a little girl now, it seems impossible sometimes that you were ever as little as Jack….but you definitely were!
Here is what you were up to in the last month:
- You had your very first dance...
Half Marathon training day one
Today was a cross-training today, so I decided to do some strength training (I guess that is what you would call it) since I could do it at home (bonus!), WHILE the kids played around me (double bonus!). So here’s what I did:
-100 crunches
-60 side crunches (30 pr side)
-15 total push ups (I have NO upper body strength at all)
-100 total leg lifts (50 per side) I guess that is what you...
I LOVE seeing my kiddos play together!
So I have been….
a terrible blogger here lately! In fact, I just realized I am a WEEK behind on Josie’s monthly post-what a bad Mommy, too! Bleh! Hopefully, I will flood your reader with lots of new posts tonight. But I say hopefully, because that is just how life is here lately :). Not bad-wonderful, in fact……just a bit crazy and unpredictable :).
Day one
Of half marathon training starts today!
Sorry I have been MIA this week. I have had a CRAZY busy week at school this week, and we started community group back on Wednesday, so it has just been busy, busy round here!
So some things-
-Jack took his first steps this weekend, to Jake while we were antiquing. Tonight he took SIX in a row…I am SO not ready for him to start walking!
-he also says “ook” now (look)
-I love...

Play date and ballet
Today Josie had a VERY much awaited play date with her cousin, Katie Ann. She LOVES Katie Ann, and was so excited for her to come and play today. They had a blast! They pulled out every toy in the upstairs, worked puzzles, ate a lunch at the little table and “bumped” cups (Josie loves doing that), and just generally had a great time.

January pictures
I have been so busy starting back school this month, I have not had a chance to post many pictures! I have definitely had time to take pictures, though! So I thought I would post some of my favorite random ones from this month so far….
Standing!
Josie almost ALWAYS has a book in hand, ready to read…
Playing with her dress up doll, on TOP of the bed so Jack can’t reach :)

Jack's 11 month pictures
I posted Jack’s 11 month post the other day, but didn’t have time to post his 11 month pictures I took for his little monthly panel thing I do. He is getting harder and harder to take pictures of each month! :)
C’mon Mom, I’m tired, lets get this over with….
Distraction technique so he doesn’t jump off the couch: sprinkles in a bottle…
Hey! Mom! I...
Snow Day!
We had a great snow day yesterday. Lots of playing, reading, playing in the snow, good long naps for the kiddos, a cleaning spree on this house (for me anyways!), snacks, and then some of my friends came over for a girl’s night. We had a blast eating chili and playing Balderdash :).
Of course I had to get some pictures from the snow-this was Jack’s first snow to “play”...
2 things I love
1. Snow days
2. Having friends over for a girls night
Plus, both are wonderful motivation for getting my house straight and clean! :)
I learned an awesome trick today for cleaning out, ahem, rather disgusting microwaves….not that mine was gross or anything…;). Just put a bowl of water inside, turn it on high for 5 minutes or so, take the bowl out, and wipe out with a wet rag. The moisture makes the grossness wipe off SO, easy, just like it wasn’t there anyways. So, five minutes, squeaky clean microwave, without...
Wish was granted!! First snow day of the school year :).
Wishing for a snow day tomorrow! I live unexpected days at home with my kiddos-one of the best parts of being a teacher :).
ELEVEN months!
Jack,
I absolutely cannot believe you are eleven months old today. When I think back to how I felt being pregnant this time last year, this past year has FLOWN by at warp speed! I miss you being little sometimes, but it is so much fun to watch you learn and grow, too. You have had a BIG month……
-You are SO mobile…you have totally mastered climbing stairs (and the dishwasher), standing...
Perfect way to spend a Friday night:
-leftovers for dinner
-just put the dishes in the sink for tomorrow
-after kiddos are in bed, play Scrabble with your hubby
-snuggle on the couch with the hubby :)
Back to reality tomorrow :/
This break has been pure awesomeness….lots of resting, family time, doing stuff around the house, organizing, playing, snuggling with the hubby and the littles…..EXACTLY what I needed. Honestly, I am not sure what I would do without Christmas break to recuperate from the first semester…I am always MORE than ready for it! It is always much needed, and much appreciated. This is one of my favorite...
New Year's Eve
We had a happy and uneventful New Year’s Eve. We spent the day together as a family, running errands and going to the Springfield Antique Barn. Then we headed down to Grammy and Pappy’s for dinner and to just hang out until midnight. We ate pizza and hot wings, hung out and talked watching the kids play, watched some home videos (and let me just say, it is AMAZING how similar Josie is...
Jack’s favorite thing to do right now-rearrange furniture!
Blessings of 2011
I generally don’t make resolutions; sometimes goals, but really I just prefer to name some of my blessings for the year. So, in no particular order, here they are:
-We welcomed a beautiful, tow-headed little bundle of joy into our arms, and he made our family and lives complete :).
-I gained another brother when Casey married Kyle. :)
-I got to spend six wonderful months at home with my...

Productive Day
I LOVE having productive days, and yesterday was one of those. Since my new couch was coming, I wanted all the Christmas decorations down so I could get the living room dusted and vacuumed really well. I got all that done, plus our massive give away pile into my car to take away today (we always do a major clean out of all closets and other areas around Christmas), ran 2 miles with Jake, made baby...
Birthday fun
Yesterday was my sweet hubby’s birthday, and we had such a fun day!
We started out the morning with a french toast and sausage breakfast, complete with a candle and the “Happy Birthday” song sung by Josie :). She also made her daddy a sweet card with a picture of the whole family on it.
Singing “Happy Birthday” (and yes, Josie is in a princess dress…she has not...
Final Christmas Gathering
Wednesday night we went to our final Christmas gathering of the season, with our friends at Bob and Shane’s house. It was a great night of good food (thanks, Shane!), catching up, and watching the guys play the Wii. We were laughing at how much our little group has grown over the years-there are so many little kids running around now! A lot can change in just a few short years. :)
Jack,...
Just finished running with Jake. We took it easy today, since this was my first time running since having pneumonia, and his first time running since spraining his ankle. We went 1.75 miles in about 19 minutes-not too bad. I felt pretty good, but I did have to hit my inhaler when we got back. Felt good to be running again, though! Thanks Mama Judy for watching the kiddos for us! :)
Sweetness
I forgot to add in my Christmas post how sweet and gracious Josie was opening all of her presents, from everybody. After she opened every.single.one, she got so excited and said “this is just what I’ve always wanted!” with a humongous smile on her face. Then she would immediately say thank you and go give the gift-giver a big hug. We were so proud of her for being so gracious. We...
Christmas Day!!
Christmas Day started bright and early…..for Jack and I, anyways….he was up bright and early before 6:00….I had to WAKE Josie up after 7:00, so we could get the day started in order to get to my parent’s house on time…she was just too worn out from all our festivities the day before :).
Of course, I had asked Santa to NOT come to our house this year, per Josie’s request (she was...
Christmas Eve
Christmas Eve started bright and early with our annual breakfast at Mama Judy’s. YUM is all I have to say about the food. It is always SUCH a good breakfast- cranberry tea, biscuits, eggs, ham, muffins, fruit, and sausage balls. Jack INHALED some sausage balls, muffins, and biscuits. He was ALL about the food this weekend-boy loves to eat! :) Josie was not so into the food, but she always...
Christmaspalooza 2011
“Christmaspalooza” is what I have dubbed our Christmas festivities this year. Christmas, for us, this year started on Friday.
Friday afternoon Josie, Jack, and I went to our annual girls gathering with the Fentress ladies. Normally we meet at Susan’s, but this year we met at Mama Judy’s so everyone could see her new kitchen. We had yummy lunch food, and all the little...
Gingerbread party!
Yesterday Josie had an invitation to attend a gingerbread party at my friend Jennifer’s house. Jennifer’s daughter, Raegan, and Josie are in preschool together, so she thought Josie would like to come and hang out. We are so glad she invited us! It was SO cute-Jennifer had thought of everything! When we got there she had everything all laid out, ready to go-gingerbread houses set up,...
Lights!!
Last night we took the kids to Shadrack’s, a light show near Opryland. It is set up in the Jellystone campground on Music Valley Dr. You stay in your car the whole time, and just drive really slowly through the campground. The lights are all set to music, and all you have to do it tune your radio to the right station. We didn’t tell Josie we were going until we pulled up-she was so...
Gotta catch up!
Gotta catch up on my blogging tonight! I have a VERY busy little boy, who is into EVERYTHING right now, so blogging is virtually impossible right now during the day!
So here is some randomness, in list form:
1. Jack is into EVERYTHING. His favorite thing is climbing our stairs. Today I turned around for 2 seconds, and he was halfway up our stairs! Then, I put chairs in front in an effort to...
3 1/2 years old!
Josie,
You are 3 1/2 years old! That seems like SUCH big number to me-it seems like just yesterday you were turning one, and getting into trouble for pulling on the toilet paper roll….now, wow, you are such a big girl! Here’s what you’ve been up to this month:
-You stayed with Ta for a day, and had a blast making cookies, reading books, and being spoiled rotten.
-You were the...
Wrapping presents
Confession: I had WAY too much fun last night wrapping all our presents! Last year we ditched regular Christmas paper, and just used regular brown paper, twine, and let Josie paint them. We decided we really liked that, so we decided to do it again this year. Instead of painting, though, I got a little inspiration from the December issue of the Better Homes and Garden magazine. So I pulled out...
The boy…..
is in to EVERYTHING these days!!
Just some examples:
Getting into sister’s art easel….again….
Oh yes he did-he learned to climb our stairs! Bleh!
Little stinker!
Climbing INTO the dishwasher…
Tasting some of Daddy’s egg nog….
Life is getting even MORE interesting around here-and I didn’t think that was possible! :)
Today
Today I finally felt normal again for the first time in over a week! My meds must finally be working :). All the steroids I’m on are also giving me MASSIVE amounts of energy-I have gotten SO much done today!
Finished wrapping all the presents, vacuumed and mopped the whole house, cleaned the bathroom (including the shower/tub!), stripped both kids’ beds and washed their sheets and...
Christmas gathering #1
Last night we all went to Mama Judy’s to celebrate Christmas with Jake’s Uncle Roy, Aunt Deb, and Ashley. It was great to see them, and Mama Judy outdid herself with an awesome dinner, as usual :). It was a great time for just hanging out and talking, and the kids had a blast playing-always!
Matthew and Jack-in a couple of years, these two are going to be unstoppable!
Mama...
Josie’s dance recital-she is the second one from the end, on the right. She is also the SUPER prissy one. It isn’ t the greatest video, but you can tell how she did :) and when she got distracted when she saw Grammy, Ta, Shshr, and Nana in the audience.
Dance Recital!
Today was Josie’s first dance recital. She was SO excited to get to put her costume on and dance on a real stage! And, she was adorable, if I do say so myself :). She did SO good-paid attention to her teacher (Ms. Holly) like she was supposed to, and only got distracted once (when she spotted Grammy, Ta, Shshr, and Nana in the audience). Jake and I were SO proud of her for doing so good.

The good and the bad
The good part of the day: I am on Christmas Break!! No more school till January :).
The bad part of the day: missing lunch with my friends to go to the doctor, where I found out I have walking pneumonia :/.
